Winter warmer events – starts Oct 2019

As the playing season draws to a close, we are delighted to offer members and friends the chance to enjoy a series of ‘winter warmer’ special events.

Annual General Meeting: Sat 12 Oct, 11am

Paid up members have the opportunity to raise questions, vote and discuss the forthcoming 2020/2021 season. This is a members club so why not have your say in its future?

Following the meeting there will be a sandwich lunch, followed by our guest speaker (see below). For catering numbers, please use the booking form inside the club house notice board.

Bletchley Park talk by Ruth Bourne: Sat 12 Oct, 2pm

Bletchley Park was the top-secret home of the World War Two code breakers, so we are privileged that Ruth will share with us her fascinating experience of working at there during the War.

Annual end of season lunch: Wed 16 Oct 2019, 1pm

Come enjoy a wonderful lunch with friends and celebrate a great season! There’s no doubt Alexanders and the service provided by Alan and his team has always been exemplary. In order improve their service, they’re asking us to pre-order.

London Cage talk by Helen Fry: Wed 20 Nov, 2pm

Don’t miss this proven, interesting and lively speaker! The London Cage was a top-secret interrogation centre set up by British intelligence during the Second World War. Located in Kensington Palace Gardens, it was closed down in 1948. For most of that time, it was a place that German prisoners of war passed through, where they were questioned, and valuable intelligence was gathered. From 1945 onwards, it collected evidence for use in war crimes trials.

The East End From the Huguenots to the Bengalis: Wed 15 Jan 2020, 2pm

Howard is a very experienced and interesting speaker who reflects on the history behind the many years throughout history of the East End of London Howard was a qualified lecturer in Health & Social Care. Now speaks on a number of subjects from Audrey Hepburn to Winston Churchill and many more

Secret London: Wed 19 Feb 2pm

Diane Burstein. Diane is one of London’s best known tourist guides as a result of six years of radio broadcasts on the subject of “Secret London” on LBC 97.3fm’s Steve Allen Show and current contributions to BBC London’s Saturday Breakfast Show. Diane’s talk is bound to be of great interest in uncovering many of London’s secret places
