Darien has received requests from multiple members of the club to do refresh training on effectively identifying and managing a potentially life-threatening medical emergency.
These sessions do NOT lead to the award of First Aid Certificates to attendees.
Proposed Session
“Managing a Person Who is NOT Awake (i.e. unresponsive / unconscious)”
Saturday 14th March 2026 at 12-00 to 2 pm
Topics Covered
1/ Recognition of an unresponsive person who is not breathing normally. Managing and practicing a Team-based resuscitation of that person. (Safety, 999, CPR and Defibrillation)
2/ Managing and monitoring a person who is unresponsive but is breathing normally.
Includes managing a possible Faint.
3/ Managing and monitoring a person having an Active Seizure.
4/ Preventing and managing Chocking (although the person is initially awake, this may not be for long and may lead to a required resuscitation)
- Adult
- Baby / Child
For this Session, the priority is the attendance of Club Members who are physically capable of doing effective CPR i.e. can kneel down and have normal strength and movement in their shoulders, arms, hands. Thus suitable to be part of an adhoc resuscitation team at the club in the event of an incident. We also need to identify people who could step up and could set up and lead such a Team if the requirement arises.
If time allows, we will also cover:
5/ Recognising and managing Catastrophic External Bleeding (aka Severe Haemorrhage). This a rare occurrence but can be fatal in 2-3 minutes and thus needs to be addressed before commencing CPR.
6/ Recognising and managing Anaphylaxis (aka Severe Allergic Reaction) – again a fairly rare but deadly condition if not dealt with quickly.
